Bringing back the classic fish and chip shop – hook, line and sinker.
Every small coastal town in Australia should have a quintessentially beachy fish and chip shop delivering quality takeaway. Chippa fills that calamari-shaped hole in the charming town of Evans Head. It’s the kind of foodie landmark where a visit to town is not complete without stopping by to sample the local produce. For locals and visitors alike, Chippa serves up old-school summer nostalgia with a touch of modern flair.
Challenge
The challenge with hospitality venues across many small towns is building a brand that is exciting enough to attract a steady flow of tourists while being a reliable staple for beachside locals. It was vital to strike the balance between a quirky and fun brand that would appeal to out-of-towners travelling just south of Byron and one that provided a humble, honest feed.
Approach
Our approach was guided by visual references from the original fish-and-chippers of yesteryear. This mixture of honest retro nostalgia was weaved into the brand’s warm colours with references to sand and seafood cooked to a golden crisp.
We still needed to appeal to young audiences in a fresh way so we grew the brand into more than just a visual. It became an experience. Good food and good times go together. Take the greaseproof paper with a map of all the must-see sites near Evans Head. Or the personal touches in the branded wet wipes and salt sachets for customers to hold onto as mementos of their foodie experience in the beachside oasis.
